Duncan — Sun, 01 Aug 2010 15:29:30 +0000</p> <p>On July 31, 2010 Rockett’s Landing in Richmond, Virginia hosted the first annual Dragon Boat Festival.</p> <p><strong>What are Dragon Boats you ask?</strong><br /> Dragon boats are 40-foot human-powered canoes decorated with ornate Chinese dragon heads. Duncan — Thu, 13 May 2010 11:34:30 +0000</p> <p>The winter of 2009-10 in the Richmond, VA area was unusual to say the least. It was the coldest, snowiest winter in recent memory. Not since I was about 14 years old riding a blue bicycle delivering the Richmond Times Dispatch in Colonial Heights that I can recall such a winter. To tell you the truth, I hope it’s another 20+ years before we see another winter like we had this year.</p> <p>As a photographer, there is one good thing about a snowy winter. The photo possibilities. So maybe a small part of me was appreciative of the winter we had. Just don’t tell my wife that I said that. We adopted Molly on May 30, 2009 from an organization called <a title="barkva - adopt a pet" href="http://www.barkva.org/" target="_blank">BarkVA</a>. Molly is a Lab/Hound mix. I held true to the goal of taking each photo posted on the actual day rather than stockpiling the photos and releasing them as needed. During those 63 days I learned how to be creative in a pinch and I found my true calling in photographing. My calling and passion lies in still life photography. I love being creative with my homemade light-box using little figurines in odd/funny situations. My <a title="acme construction" href="/photography/still-life/acme-construction/">ACME Construction</a> post shows what I’m thinking. I plan to expand on those photos and offer print sales once I have the right theme produced.
